Do you know of any other messenger project that is not only first but fediverse-only when it comes to public communication and interaction? It's a deliberate choice that is oriented towards organic contribution growth and staying under the radar. We do not employ a "get as popular as possible" strategy because it's all about real work not hype (of which there is no lack these days for IT things) ... and with few money. Let's see where we are in a few months ... Spring is coming :)

@delta@chaos.social could you please explain how can I use deltachat app on my phone for public communication? Or point me to a guide? I do not have any contacts on DeltaChat yet and it feels pretty empty tbh

Föderation EN Fr 14.03.2025 23:15:22

@ivn delta chat is for private communication between friends, family, activists, .... "Public communication" referred to our projct's communication to the (fediverse) public ...

@delta@chaos.social this is what really lacking for me: I really like the idea of decentralized communication, I like the idea of "e-mail servers recycling", but I do not see any added use cases compared to basic e-mail itself... Like, ok, it's an e-mail wrapped in Chat UI, ok, what's it good for?

Here is another discussion in Russian:

@ivn Not sure we understand the question. Are you asking what chat messaging (also including whatsapp/signal etc.) is good for? Or rather what good is offering Delta Chat over regular classic e-mail?

Föderation · Do 20.03.2025 15:34:35

@delta@chaos.social more of the second: like I get it, it has nice modern chat UI / UX, great. What else on top of "better UI" is there, that is better than e-mail?

Regarding apps: it's not clear to me as well - what is the advantage of running apps inside DC client as opposed to Web-browser? Again, I like the idea of decentralized apps, but I do not see any use cases for me.

To me, the fact that we are discussing the DC issues NOT inside DC is the main illustration to my point. How can we continue this discussion in DC? Is there a way at all?

Föderation · Do 20.03.2025 15:46:48

@delta@chaos.social Don't get me wrong: I think DC is great and I want to use it. I just have 0 use cases right now, and this is why I am asking so many questions.

Use cases that I use Telegram for: follow my favorite creators and groups, public discussions in comments, following recent events and live journalism (e.g. recent protests in Belgrade, Serbia). In the past I also used telegram to send money (crypto), but not anymore. Is there anything like that in DC?

@ivn sorry We have various pinned posts highlighting capabilities and features of our efforts but their usefulness indeed depends on having a private circle to use it with.

Families and friend groups, organizers of protests, journalist and lawyer associations -- all those in need of reliable and hassle-free *private* communication and co-ordination are among the happy users.

For onboarding with public communities or social-media experiences we rather recommend the
